Specialized entering 100 Nm Torque Club with its newly launched 3.1 engine

More torque, more power. This is a move we expected to see through the EMTB engine manufacturers since DJI launched its Avinox, which can reach up to 120 Nm of torque with a maximum output of 1000 watts.
With up to 111 Nm of torque and 720 watt power, specializing now is directly competing with DJI and other Bosch and Shimano drive bikes while trying to earn the title of the best EMTB 2025.
So how was it in our initial, first run?
Specialized claims that 2025. Gen 4 Levo Bike “Where Super Finds It Natural”, and our first question was: with so much power, can the bike endure on that line? Because I can tell you one thing – I cannot naturally produce such power myself.
So, can a bike weighing about 52 pounds still feel natural?
At the end of the day, what we want to see in EMTB is a bicycle that does not overcome the riding experience, but rather enhances it. This makes it more fun and makes you want to drive more. It facilitates someone who has never started a mountain bike, and even easier for someone who has not rode the bike in 20 years to return to the saddle.
Although this specialized examination Levo Gen 4 is not our complete, detailed examination (which is coming soon, so hold firmly), I can confidently say that from just the first 2 hours of this bike, it is worth waiting.

Specialized turbo levo 4: models/prices
Gen 3 Levo was a favorite crowd, he won many ‘Best Emtb’ awards and is a bicycle that has held its own against a new competition in the last 4 years. You can continue to buy the gene 3 Levo at a great price. Actually, We made a recent video Knowledge of generation 4 Levo comes out because we still think that Gen 3 is a fantastic option for those looking for a job.
If you have an extra $$, then our first impression is that the gene 4 Levo is from a specialized value.
And hey, specialized, everyone did a favor and reduced the price of their S-Works model to just $ 13,499. Considering that we are concerned about the price of $ 15,000+ for their superior specifications, we will take this as a positive sign that we hope will continue throughout the industry.
Specialized also reduced the price of the Comp version to $ 799. Yes, still a lot of money, but about $ 1,000 less than the gene 3 Comp.
All in all, Specialized has the following four models:
- S-Works Levo 4, MSRP: $ 13.499
- Levo 4 for | $ 10,999
- Levo 4 expert | $ 9,499
- Left 4 carbon | $ 7,999
Note: Upper price is from starting date. We have not heard anything official from the specialized what will happen in the future if tariffs with suppliers are still increasing.
Specialized 3.1 engine + battery options on gene 4 Levo
We consider the highlight of the new Leva engine. The previous specialized 2.2 engine had some of the best results on our Hill tests and is still one of the most controversial, natural riding engines we drove. The only flaw we found with the engine 2.2 is that he has become louder over time. The engine was good enough that even for 4 years he still competed against the newer options of Bosch and Shimano.
However, it is quite clear that specialized does not want to lose DJI when it comes to momentum and strength. They increased the torque at 101nm on the Comp, Expert and Pro models and continued to unlock the S-Works edition engine, which comes with a whopping 111 Nm torque.
Again, we still haven’t been able to carry a bike through the tests on the hill, but I will go out for a pretty solid limb and state that I expect it to do it incredibly good.
Of course, the torque is not all. Specialized also increased Watt output with 565W to 720 watts. Although this may not be 1000 watts you get from DJI, we like this move because it does not push the bicycle along the boundaries of 750 W allowed on the trails with one paths in the USA.
For battery options, specialized specifications each bike with an 840WH battery that can be charged up to 80% for one hour thanks to a 5 ampere charger, 200 watts. You can even get a 12 ampere charger, which we have, and I die to see how quickly it fills the battery. I don’t think I have seen a 12 ampere charger, and as someone who often forgets to charge my bike and end up at the last minute, I can’t say how impressed I am of a rapid filling of a new gene 4 Levo.
Specialized will also have a 600 Wh and a 250 Wh extender battery that you can buy for those who want to have a rather modular battery system.
Specialized turbo levo review: Key specifications
I will let you directly on the Levo 4 product page to see all the specifications of each model, but I want to mention that the specialized did not pull the classic: “We made a super light e-bicycle that has a shit tire, a light shock and brakes that also need to upgrade for those who ride hard.” It still pulls me out to this day that I had to spend an additional $ 800 to increase from $ 11,000 orbe to SNUFF when I bought it in 2020.
Instead, she specializes in the focus that you do not need to change parts and that they will keep up to extra weight and use of EMTB full power.
Our only one for now is that they have no 2.4 tires yet in the warehouse, so they currently deliver a bicycle with tires of 2.3 ”. However, they still have their gravitational tires (butcher, gravity housing, Gripton® T9 joint). For us, we will soon replace them with respect to the super rocky terrain we drive, but we think that these driving more flow paths will be fine.
Another feature of a bicycle we want to highlight in this first driving review is Swat Downtube. We ride a lot from 95-100 degrees and absolutely appreciate what we can store the spare tube and a small electric pump on a bicycle, so we don’t have to bring a package when driving.
The compromise that specialized had to make to fit into a swat storage was to get downtube greater. In our opinion, we think it is a good compromise and worth it.
Specialized turbo levo: first impressions to drive
Since this is a “reconsideration of the first ride”, we will not be able to go depth as we would otherwise be in terms of the way the bike shakes on various types of trails. However, we were incredibly impressed with several aspects of Gen 4 Levo after our first few rounds in Zen (and another shout of Zen Trail-how yet you have not drove it, we have been warmly encouraged to go to St. George to do so).
Walking into a review, we had the following questions/reservations:
- 1. The bike was a little harder than we expected. Just over 52 pounds. The bike is a few pounds weighing than some, and we were curious to know if it was still dirty and light on the trails.
- 2. We were worried that the tires of 2.3 “would be a little narrow for the Zen path collection. In addition, they are about 200 grams heavier than the other tires we usually drive, and we wondered if it would take away the feeling of poppies we love from the Gen 3 Levo.
- 3. We wondered if the shorter chain (riding with a 435mm -default length) would make it difficult to keep the front end on the ups.
After only 1 round Zen, all these questions and worries disappeared. The bike felt incredibly comfortable and stable, and we liked that the combination of the new suspension of Genie Shock + Horselink gave a bicycle feeling of a coil. We adored the position of riding in which we managed to enter thanks to a full drop of 170 mm.
The engine really surprised us, but not because of increased power. Although we loved increased strength and torque, what was truly impressive was how a natural and intuitive delivery of strength was felt. We particularly appreciated that a specialized updated cadence curve on the engine 3.1 (see image below), improvement of the power output as the rider corded increases.
Because of this, it is even more fun and more natural to climb very steep, technical parts of the course. And when you combine that torque and strength with solid geo and kinematics, the bicycle weight almost only disappears under you as you drive.
Although we did not test the bike in a long placement of our stay, we can say that we were very pleased with how vibrant bike handled with a shorter setting. And we also still found a bike to climb well.

An additional torque really helps with steep technical ups, but we also appreciated intuitive handling that made it easier to select lines

All in all, we have no complaints about handling gene 4 Levo, but we will probably replace tires by 2.4 or 2.5 or 2.5

The bike feels lightly and fun on the trails, and we are glad that specialized did not mean a bike just to save weight
Bottom Line of View 2025 Specialized Turbo Levo 4
All in all, we are very happy to see how specialized they increase their strength and torque, offer a modular battery system, include swat in downtube and specify a bicycle with appropriate components that can handle EMTB full power.
In our conversations with Joe Buckley, he made it clear that specialized focused on the improvement of Levo based on the actual return of customers, which he shows. Although we wish it did not take 4 years to come out with the new model, it is not surprising given how successful gene 3 was, especially when you consider all the supply problems and excessive products that hit the 2020 industry.
Follow our complete overview of the specialized Turbo Levo 2025, as we will update this first review of driving with all our detailed test results as soon as we can.
